If you are working independent of a Plastic Surgeon, performing just liposuction, we can also work with one of our national carriers to place the important Liposuction Insurance. Our California and nationwide Liposuction Insurance programs are tailored to your med-spa, aesthetic, or cosmetic clinic’s needs.
Brad O’Brien and Linda Eisel are working every day with underwriters, physicians, aestheticians, allied health care workers to further understand the risks, the types of spas and the malpractice and other needed insurance that is appropriate and affordable to cover them. It is important that Liposuction and Plastic Surgery are separately insurance under the proper Carrier's Terms, while separating out the Medical Spa Insurance so that the procedures that cause claims are covered, insulating the Plastic Surgeon if the only involvement was at the level of Medical Director.
Physicians can, of course, insure all of this on their own policies. And they often do. Or they can inadvertently insure more! More Liposuction and Plastic Surgery risk is piled up because you (the physician) might be unwittingly providing medical director services which fall squarely on the limit of your medical malpractice insurance policy as well. You are certainly providing supervisory services over the staff of your spa, liposuction, anti aging or other aesthetic related clinic/facility. We highly recommend that you protect yourself and business against legal action, attorney fees, as well as hazards of the profession. We invite you to fill out the quick quote form on our website, and our team will reply immediately.
Plastic Surgery / Liposuction complications and Risks:
Liposuction and Plastic Surgery Insurance is discounted when physicians participate in Risk Management and practices carefully.
Plastic Surgeons have long been aware of the risk of liposuction; in spite of the many successful, positive results, procedures like liposuction and laser should always be treated with caution and care. There is a company, online called Liposuction.com they advise that without risk management studies and careful planning and protocol, bad outcomes from these procedures are inevitable. There are many factors that increase risk of adverse outcomes for these procedures.
Basically, Liposuction and many more Plastic Surgery procedures are surprisingly safe, procedures and skills have been perfected and analyzed, rare problems can occur with any surgical procedure. And, liposuction is no exception: the usual situations can affect the outcome of liposuction, infections, bleeding from the site, ulcerations and accidental peripheral nerve damage.
Tumescent Liposuction can minimize these risks, The main side effects of tumescent are bruising, swelling and temporary numbness. Although irregularities of the skin are possible following liposuction, this side effect is minimized by tumescent liposuction.
The major complications with liposuction are increased when the patient is actually not that obese, when they have too much liposuction in one day, and if they have the aforementioned additional surgical procedures.
The risk management advice that makes the most sense:
- Do not do more than just that one procedure on the scheduled day.
- It is dangerous to attempt too much liposuction on the same day. There is a limit to the amount of surgical trauma that the human body can safely withstand.
- It is not a good idea, unsafe to perform liposuction along with unrelated cosmetic procedures; face lift, breast surgery, laser, or even other site liposuction procedures (i.e. abdominal surgery and surgery anywhere else!)
- The use of general anesthesia or IV sedation for liposuction may tempt a patient or a surgeon to do too much liposuction. (the while we are in there syndrome)
The following is a list of the most serious risks, which fortunately are rare.
- Pulmonary thromboembolism
- Infection Intra-Abdominal Perforation
- Hematoma
- Nerve Damage
- Swelling
- Skin Necrosis
- Pulmonary Edema
- Adverse Drug Reactions (Toxicity or Allergic Reactions)
